God’s Word & Healing

Mathew 8:16:17 “That evening demon possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command and healed all the sick. This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases”

It was never Gods plan for mankind to suffer from sickness and disease – Before the fall of man God created perfect beings. In fact the Bible says we were created in God’s image:

Genesis 1:26,27 “Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”

27 So God created human beings in his own image.
In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them
.”

But after the fall (adam & eve) sin entered in which with it came sickness and disease.  In order for God to “restore” mankind to their original state (before the fall of man, before sin) He had to send a Savior and that person is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.

Jesus Doing Good:

When Jesus came – He spent his life here on earth doing good. The Bible says Acts 10:38“And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.”

Jesus Gives Disciples Power: But healing didn’t stop after Jesus died and was resurrected. No, before the crucifixion  taught and prepared the disciples to carry out God’s will and plan. He gave the disciples “Power” to heal the sick.

Mathew 10: 1,8And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. V8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast our devils: Freely you have received, freely give”

It was not by their own power, but by the power of Jesus Name:

Acts 3:11-13And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.

12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?

13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus

Chain of Command: In business this is called “Chain of Command”  The people at the top give power to those under them…In Gods Kingdom, He gives power to those he has called:

1Corinthians 12:1,4-10, 27, 28 Now, dear brothers and sisters, regarding your question about the special abilities the Spirit gives us. I don’t want you to misunderstand this…There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. 5 There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. 6 God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.

7 A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other. 8 To one person the Spirit gives the ability to give wise advice; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge. 9 The same Spirit gives great faith to another, and to someone else the one Spirit gives the gift of healing. 10 He gives one person the power to perform miracles, and another the ability to prophesy. He gives someone else the ability to discern whether a message is from the Spirit of God or from another spirit. Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said…27 All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it. 28 Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church:

first are apostles,
second are prophets,
third are teachers,
then those who do miracles,
those who have the gift of healing,
those who can help others,
those who have the gift of leadership,
those who speak in unknown languages.”

Gifts & Faith – Powerful Combination: Even though God gives the gifts he always requires “Faith”  When Jesus was busy going from town to town and when family members brought their loved ones, or friends brought those they cared about to him for healing, he always responded by saying “fear not, believe only

Luke 8:50
“Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

God ALWAYS responds to Faith

Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”

Hebrews 11:6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

God administers Healing in a variety of different ways when Faith is present:

  • Prayer/Laying on of hands/touch / Anointing with oil
    James 5:14-16:
14 Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.

16 Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

WordsMathew 8:5-10,135 When Jesus returned to Capernaum, a Roman officer came and pleaded with him, 6 “Lord, my young servant lies in bed, paralyzed and in terrible pain.”

7 Jesus said, “I will come and heal him.”

8 But the officer said, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come into my home. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed. 9 I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,’ and they go, or ‘Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,’ they do it.”

10 When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to those who were following him, he said, “I tell you the truth, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel! 13 Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, “Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.” And the young servant was healed that same hour.

Commands –  Luke 4:31-3631 Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day.32 There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority.

33 Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon—an evil spirit—began shouting at Jesus, 34 “Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

35 Jesus cut him short. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further.

36 Amazed, the people exclaimed, “What authority and power this man’s words possess! Even evil spirits obey him, and they flee at his command!” 37 The news about Jesus spread through every village in the entire region.”

Thoughts of FaithMark 5:25-3425 A woman in the crowd had suffered for twelve years with constant bleeding. 26 She had suffered a great deal from many doctors, and over the years she had spent everything she had to pay them, but she had gotten no better. In fact, she had gotten worse. 27 She had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him through the crowd and touched his robe. 28 For she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed.” 29 Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition.

30 Jesus realized at once that healing power had gone out from him, so he turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my robe?”

31 His disciples said to him, “Look at this crowd pressing around you. How can you ask, ‘Who touched me?’”

32 But he kept on looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the frightened woman, trembling at the realization of what had happened to her, came and fell to her knees in front of him and told him what she had done. 34 And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over.”

You might be thinking “I don’t have that kind of faith” Good news is God has given each of us a “measure” of faith!

His word also says that if we have faith as small as the tiny size of a mustard seed, that we can “say” to a mountain “move” and it WILL obey us!

How do we go from “little” faith to big faith? The Bible says, “Faith comes (grows) by hearing and hearing the word of God”

Attending  a church (regularly) that teaches what I have shared with you… “hearing” Gods words will help to increase our faith! Also, on your own time, reading His promises and keep them before us at all times…”Fix your thoughts on what is true” Keep our attention on what God says and not on the circumstances or “evil” reports!  His word IS TRUTH!
