6 Things Jesus says all Christians Do

Have you ever really looked at a sheep and a goat? As I’ve taken time to think about it I have discovered they have some similarities and some differences. If mixed together and from a distance they can look more similar than not.

I began thinking about this when reading Jesus teaching in Matthew 25:31-46 and on judgement day King Jesus says he will separate the sheep from the goat. He says he will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. I believe he chose using the two because regarding the church there are also similarities between those claiming to be followers of Jesus and those who are actually doing what he says. And in Matthew 25:31-46 he gives us the difference of the two: He says the sheep are those who feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked and give shelter to the homeless and visit those who are sick and those who are in prison. And in this same context Jesus also says the goats are those who “refuse” to keep these words.

They may look a little like the sheep but the difference is their faith has no good works as taught in James chapter 2 where it says “show me your faith without works and I’ll show you my faith BY my works.” James also says our Faith is dead if we do not help those in need.  James 2:18.

Jesus said “My sheep hear my voice”: “I was hungry and you fed me, thirsty and you gave me something to drink…if you’ve done it to the least of these my brothers and sisters you’ve done it to me.” Matthew 25:34-36.  I believe the goat are also those described in Matthew 7:22 “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ And Jesus says “Depart from me I never knew you…” Wow! Why would he say that?  I mean honestly, they were prophesying in his name and driving out demons in his name and even performing mighty miracles in his name and yet those things are not the fruit he will be looking for on the day of judgement.  But according to his words in Matthew 25:31-46  Jesus says he will identify his sheep by their fruit: they had mercy on the poor.
